Energy & Environment

HCM VIF prioritizes energy and environmental solutions that are field-tested and have output covered by an industrial partner — where the technology is validated with operational data, not just paper models.

Why now?

Energy transition has a specific roadmap and numbers

Vietnam has committed to achieving net zero emissions by 2050 at COP26. That commitment is now concretized by planning, capacity targets and electricity trading mechanisms - turning energy transition from a policy topic into a market with real demand. 46,459 – 73,416 MW and onshore and nearshore wind power reached 26,066 – 38,029 MW. That scale entails a large need for storage, load management, emission inventory and industrial environmental treatment.

We do not invest in power generation projects. We look for the technology and team to make that transition work more efficiently.

This is the moment HCM VIF wants to accompany: when the need for technology is clearly established, but local technical teams still lack the capital to go from trial to commercial deployment.

Ho Chi Minh City Chance

Advantages only City funds have

Institute – technical school

The energy, materials and environment research groups at the Ho Chi Minh City school of engineering are the source of foundational technology for solutions requiring technical depth.

Local industrial needs

The density of factories and industrial parks around the City creates the first set of customers ready to test energy saving and emission treatment solutions.

Field testing infrastructure

The City's high-tech park and industrial facilities allow pilot-scale testing under real operating conditions.

Companion policy

The City's green growth orientation and energy transition programmes create a policy fulcrum for solutions that require long payback periods.

HCM VIF what to look for in the industry

Four signals in the energy and environment profile

  1. Tested in the field

Have operational data from an actual deployment site, not just simulation results or lab testing.

  2. Industrial offtake partner

Identify customers or partners committed to consuming the output, showing proven market demand.

  3. Convincing economic problem

The payback period and life cycle costs are calculated transparently, not completely dependent on the support mechanism.

  4. Measurable environmental impact

Emission reductions or resource savings are determined using independently verifiable inventory methods.

The central problem

The energy and environmental problems we care about

Energy storage and load management

Battery systems, dispatch software and load management solutions help renewable power sources operate stably in the grid.

Industrial energy efficiency

Technology to monitor and optimize energy consumption for factories, buildings and urban technical infrastructure.

Emission inventory and management

Emission measurement, reporting and verification platform serves the increasingly strict compliance requirements of export supply chains.

Circular economy and waste treatment

Recycling technology, material recovery and industrial waste treatment with a self-standing business model.

Water technology and urban environment

Wastewater treatment solutions, water and air quality monitoring suitable for the City's infrastructure conditions.

And other breakthrough technologies

The above list is the direction the Fund is interested in, not a limit. If your business pursues a disruptive new technology that falls outside of the above categories, we'd love to hear.
